Chapter 39 A young man arrived in Velisco
Chapter 39 A young man arrived in Velisco
The night in Velissco was eerily quiet, with only two areas of the city still brightly lit.
One is the central area, where all the powerful and influential gather, and where mages and nobles reside.
The monks studied and researched day and night, while the nobles indulged in pleasure and banquets without ceasing.
The other is the port area, where dockworkers have no concept of day or night. As long as there is money to be made, they are very willing to work until late at night.
Most of the cargo unloaded from the freighters was intended for the extravagant spending of the nobles in the central district; the remainder consisted of various other goods.
These dockworkers, like ants, support the people in the city center.
Foreman Chick was once one of the dockworkers, but he later had a stroke of luck and gained the appreciation of a chamber of commerce boss, which finally allowed him to rise from a dockworker to a foreman.
Chick was in a bad mood because the dockworkers had suddenly huddled together in a chaotic mess and stopped doing their jobs. How was he supposed to explain this to his boss?
"You lot! What are you doing?! Get back to work, do you still want your wages?"
Looking at the group of dockworkers in front of him, Chick shouted angrily.
"But, Lord Chik, look over there!"
A dockworker pointed out to the sea.
"What are you looking at? What's so interesting?"
"What is that!?"
Chick was about to reprimand him again, but when he looked in the direction his finger was pointing, he saw a glimmer of light.
There was light on the dock, which was not unusual, but the light came from a small boat, and most importantly, there were no lights on the boat!
More importantly, even though there was no wind, the sails on the boat suddenly billowed up, as if they were rising on their own.
"That...that's...will-o'-the-wisp!"
A dockworker stammered.
Chick ignored the seemingly terrified dockworker; he was far more knowledgeable than the rest of the group.
He knew exactly what color will-o'-the-wisp was; this was clearly a normal flame, not a will-o'-the-wisp.
What is that?
Flames swaying, sails billowing without wind...
"It's a mage! It's a venerable mage!"
In an instant, Chik realized that the one who could wield the power of nature was none other than a mage.
"Quickly! Call all the dockworkers over! A venerable monk is visiting! We mustn't let him feel neglected!"
Upon learning of the situation, Chick immediately ordered his men to bring all the dockworkers under his command.
After all, this is his own territory. If this mage feels neglected, he doesn't even need to take action himself. With just a word, Chik could very well be forced to step down immediately.
It's okay if the work is delayed a little; we can just have the dockworkers work overtime, and he can pay for the overtime.
In case I displease the Master...

Jiang Shuzhou lay on the deck. He was very tired. Although in theory he could row the boat entirely by relying on the wind and waves, that would consume magic power.
His magic is not infinite.
After his magic points are depleted, he can only move forward by consuming his stamina.
After repeatedly depleting his magic and stamina, Jiang Shuzhou finally saw the lights.
He tidied his appearance from afar, not wanting to lose face. Even if he was alone, Jiang Shuzhou had to maintain the elegance befitting a mage.
Otherwise, there's no way to fake it. Besides, this is his first time in the civilized world of the game, and the first impression he makes is very important. He can't just come looking slovenly, can he? If he doesn't get kicked out by the city guards, he'll consider himself a success.
Looking at the bright lights in the distance, Jiang Shuzhou felt a sense of relaxation, but he instantly tensed up again after seeing the dense crowd of people in the distance.
"Is the Mentu family so powerful? How come they have people everywhere? I just arrived, and they've already sent so many to ambush me?"
Jiang Shuzhou, who was completely unaware that the Mentu family had already been dealt a heavy blow by the elder, inwardly grumbled.
He immediately drew his pirate scimitar. Seeing that there seemed to be no professionals among the crowd, Jiang Shuzhou's bloodlust surged.
"Luckily, I came back after my promotion; these people alone couldn't stop me at all."
Just as his small boat approached, Jiang Shuzhou, who was preparing for a bloody battle at the dock, heard such a sentence.
"Welcome, Venerable Master, to the dock for guidance. We dockworkers will certainly work hard and live up to your expectations."
Huh? Not a member of the Mentu family?
And what did I say that you just left it here unsatisfactorily?
Despite this, Jiang Shuzhou did not sheathe his knife. Then, a well-dressed man who looked like he was in charge stepped out from among the dockworkers and said...
"Master, what brings you here? I will certainly do my best to fulfill your request."
As the saying goes, one doesn't hit a smiling face. Since these people are so polite, even though they might still be suspected of being sent by the Mentu family, Jiang Shuzhou feels embarrassed to go on a rampage.
Do you know the Mentu family?
Jiang Shuzhou went straight to the point; he was fed up with beating around the bush, and it was time to speak frankly.
"The Mentu family?"
Chik was stunned, and then cold sweat broke out on his forehead. The Mentu family was gone, and the only two mages left were now being forcibly conscripted for treason. They were to die gloriously in battle, and no matter what, they would not be released.
If the person in front of him were an old friend of the Mentu family, and he told the truth, he might be torn to pieces by the enraged man. If he lied, that wouldn't work either. Not to mention that the magic the sorcerers possess could detect lies, the Mentu family's affairs could be easily inquired about. If Chik was lying...
That would also be dismembered into eight pieces.
Just as Qi Ke was struggling with his inner conflict, Jiang Shuzhou saw that the man was sweating profusely and quietly cast a mage armor spell.
Just as Jiang Shuzhou was about to raise his knife and start hacking his way from the dock to the central area, Chik spoke.
"The Mentu family is gone. They were wiped out for treason. The only two mages left in the family were sent to a disciplinary camp and will never come out."
He finished speaking at a speed he would never have done before, then closed his eyes; he was going to risk his life.
"Very well, you'd better be telling the truth. If you dare to lie to me..."
Jiang Shuzhou sheathed his knife; Qi Ke had won his gamble.
"My lord, everything I have said is true. If you don't believe me, you can ask other places. If there is even half a lie, I, Qi Ke, am at your mercy."
"very good."
Although he was still not completely off guard, Jiang Shuzhou, adhering to the principle of "better to avoid trouble," did not go on a killing spree.
After all, this is a civilized world to some extent. If they start killing indiscriminately for no reason, Jiang Shuzhou might end up meeting the mages of the Mentu family in the disciplinary camp.
"Send your men away, I'm going out."
Upon hearing this, Chick knew he had won his gamble; this killing god was finally leaving.
Just now, Chik saw the other person's eyes. Normally, a mage's eyes are full of wisdom, but this god of death's eyes are full of killing intent.
This mage is definitely the kind who doesn't value human life; it seems like his usual way of resolving incidents is to kill.
"You lowly commoners! You dare not make way for the noble mage! Do you have a death wish?!"
He conveniently distanced himself from the situation, lest the mage be displeased and he be killed as well.
Looking at Qi Ke's fawning expression, Jiang Shuzhou felt a little strange.
Am I the kind of person who kills innocent people indiscriminately?
