Chapter 115: Sam Arrives At Base!
Chapter 115: Sam Arrives At Base!
The sun was no more and the crescent moon took its place, the moonlight shone through the parted clouds.
Sam arrived at the base, parking the car right at the entrance, Sam was on guard.
He didn’t come out of the car until he was well-armed, he didn’t want to risk his life for people that were most likely already dead.
He looked to his right and noticed that there were bodies on the ground but they didn’t look reanimated.
"What the hell happened here?" Sam thought to himself, he didn’t use a pistol and equipped an assault rifle.
He knew he needed to go in hard but a bang on his window alerted him of someone’s presence.
Sam jerked his head only to see blood stains on his window.
Whatever it was that hit his car must have been responsible, Sam knew that things weren’t as they seemed.
He didn’t care who it was and wasn’t about to investigate either because whoever or whatever it was, Sam didn’t care as long as it wasn’t a threat to him.
Sam got out of the car with a torch attached to his assault rifle to see through the darkness.
He walked around the car to see what had smacked it only to see a man, barely clinging to life.
"Ah, you’re a human," Sam said, the man was in military uniform but he wasn’t infected.
The assault rifle had a silence at the nozzle, and Sam buried a bullet right through his head without thinking twice.
"Well then, shall we?" Sam said with a smile as he made his way through the gate, the fact that it was opened meant that nothing had been kept out.
Sam wasn’t subtle, he began to whistle out loud to announce his presence.
Sam also noticed that it wasn’t just the military here, he could see some dead zombies.
There was no way zombies could overrun a base, a military fucking base for that matter.
He soon heard a gunshot close by, this told him that there were still people fighting there.
Sam rushed to the area where the gunshot was heard from because he wanted to know what was going on.
He didn’t ask the man he killed for details because of the state he was in, there was no way a word could come out of his mouth and Sam considered what he did a mercy.
Sam reached where the gunshot was heard from and he looked disappointed with what he saw.
The man had put a bullet through his own head, this was a suicide.
Sam crouched to the ground and inspected the body, he was bitten but the bite mark looked irregular.
"What have you gotten yourself into buddy?" Sam asked, patting the person’s cheek.
He heard growing sounds, that was to be expected, he wasn’t the only one who heard the gunshot.
"I was wondering where you fuckers were..." Sam muttered, he could use the light from the base to guide himself, he didn’t need his gun equipped anymore and because of that, he let it go.
There was a rope that he had attached to it so it was on him at all times, Sam opted to go for a melee weapon because why not?
He was injured but these were zombies, they should be easy to get rid of.
The zombies were approximately five, a lot less than Sam had anticipated.
He made quick work of them, but he didn’t kill them, Sam only decapitated them and left their head on the floor.
Sam made his way into the building to find Delta, he knew that there was no way that the camp could fall in less than twenty-four.
That was impossible so they had to have some sort of line that they were still holding.
Sam noticed that there were bloodstains on the walls but there were no bodies.
"Oi, is anyone alive?" Sam asked.
Sam was getting irritated that there was no one, the only people he had encountered were either near death or already dead.
All he heard was more growling but a hand soon wrapped around his mouth and dragged him away from the corridor before the zombies could see him.
Sam quickly broke free from whoever this person was with his knife pointed at him.
"You are..." Sam muttered, clearly recognizing the individual.
The man was injured, he had lost an eye but he was still in a condition to fight.
"It’s good to see you Sam," This was the man that Sam had been talking to on the walkie-talkie.
"What happened here Delta? How did zombies do this much damage?" Sam questioned.
There was no way that the zombies possessed such prowess considering how easily he had just defeated five himself.
"These zombies... They’re different..." Delta said and Sam raised his brow to this.
He has encountered different types of zombies already so what is the problem?
They didn’t have guns, that alone puts them at a disadvantage.
"They die, don’t they? All you need is to put a bullet through their skull so how did this happen?" Sam asked, he was calm and collected despite what was happening.
Before Delta could give him a response, something began banging against the door.
"It has found us!" Delta exclaimed, Sam noticed the fear on his face.
"Who has?" Sam questioned, eager to find out what was going on.
"Death," Delta responded.

Jason sat on his bed, Lillian had returned to her place but he was thinking about what Debra had told him but he was also worried because he didn’t know what waited for him if he went for the fragment. If the zombies evolved by consuming it, what happens if he goes there and the fragment is already absorbed by one of those zombies?
Jason didn’t like the idea of breaking the rules so early but the meds on the table told him that it was worth it, so he gave Lillian a few antibiotics for Bella.
This was one of the most important drugs right now as it helped keep infection to a minimum.
"I can’t believe she would ask that of me," Jason thought to himself.
It was because of Chronos he accepted and for some reason, the place she wanted Jason to go to was close to the place the fragment was located.
Debra asked Jason for the most random things, she wanted him to check out a place that wasn’t too far from here, this meant that he could be back in less than an hour if all things went well.
Debra assured him that she would make it possible for him to leave the community without alerting the guards.
Debra knew what would happen if they found Jason sneaking it out, it could potentially result in them being exiled.
That was one thing that she didn’t want because it would fall back on her as well.
She would face punishment but it wouldn’t be as severe as Jason.
Jason got to his feet but before he could step out of the house, he was met by Rachel.
"Do you have a minute to talk?" Rachel asked but Jason was suspicious as to why she was there. He knew he had a task at hand but he couldn’t spook Rachel.
"Yeah, what’s up?" Jason responded.
"Were you headed out?" Rachel asked because Jason was all dressed up.
There was no way he was staying at home dressed like that.
"Yeah, I have something to take care of," Jason said bluntly, he didn’t attempt to lie.
"Oh, maybe we can talk later then. When will you return?" Rachel asked.
Jason didn’t know what was going on but Rachel was acting strange.
He didn’t have time either to engage in a conversation that wouldn’t do either of them any good.
"Are you sure?" Jason asked. On a normal day, he would have made time for her but today wasn’t one of those days as he had other priorities.
He didn’t wait for her to reply because there was no reason to, he could have asked her for help as she was well equipped in these things.
"You know what? Wait for me here, we will talk when I return. How does that sound?" Jason asked, and Rachel nodded in agreement.
She had no reason not to as she headed inside but she had one question for Jason.
"Where are you going?" Rachel asked, Jason wasn’t fully healed so it wasn’t a smart idea for him to be moving about but the fact that he had gotten pills for Bella showed that his new position must already be reaping the benefits that Mariam told them about.
"I think it’s best if you don’t know," Jason responded to which Rachel didn’t press further.
She knew that Jason didn’t want to talk about it and she was going to respect it.
"Just come back safe," Rachel said.
"For you, I will," Jason retorted with a wide grin on his face.
