Chapter 172: Danger Alert!
Chapter 172: Danger Alert!
Jason and Clementine reached a location and that was when Clementine noticed that he was bleeding. There was a wound on his right knee and she hadn’t seen it earlier thanks to the trousers he had on.
She only just now noticed it because of the blood that seeped through that layer of clothing.
Clementine knew that she had to treat it or it risked becoming infected but with Jason’s current state, did that even apply to him?
"Jason, we need to stop," Clementine said but Jason didn’t hear her the first time and kept walking.
"Jason..." She called once again and Jason stopped in his tracks before looking at her.
He had his face to the ground, trying to sort out his thoughts.
"You’re bleeding," Clementine said and Jason sighed the moment he realized this.
It was just a minor wound compared to the amount of injuries he had been afflicted with since the apocalypse began and shouldn’t be a cause for concern.
"Oh, this? It’s nothing, we should focus on the task at hand..." Jason said and Clementine rolled her eyes, she didn’t understand that men were so stubborn.
It was like it was an innate trait that this gender possessed but the same could be said for women.
Clementine halted in her tracks and since she was leading the way, Jason stopped to as he couldn’t continue the journey without her.
"Why are we stopping?" Jason asked but Clementine didn’t give him a verbal response.
All she did was tear a piece of the clothes she had on.
"Sit," She commanded but Jason still thought this was an overreaction.
All this was unnecessary but he decided to listen to Clementine as this was the least that he could do for her.
Jason sat on the ground and rolled up his trousers to reveal his wound, the wound looked normal.
Jason wondered why he still bled like a normal person, one would think his body would stop functioning like that of a normal person but he was still very much human when it came to it.
Jason knew he couldn’t let the infection spread by any means necessary as there was no telling what could happen should that come to pass.
"Does it hurt?" Clementine asked, getting on her knees to dress the wound.
"A little," Jason responded with a slight wince the moment he felt her hand around the wound.
Clementine proceeded to help him bandage his wound and Jason didn’t understand why she was doing all this for him.
He was appreciative of Clementine because she was going out of her way to be there for him.
Jason watched in silence as she expertly bandaged his leg.
"All done," Clementine said before giving the wound a light tap that prompted Jason to flinch.
"You’re as good as new! We should continue once you rest up a little," Clementine said but this confused Jason as they had no reason to stop.
They could have easily kept going so stopping now would be a waste of time as this was an urgent matter.
Clementine talked some sense into him and their destination would be the same as the others.
Jason was attracting zombies and the fact that he took the longer route meant that the zombies would be drawn away from the rest.
In a sense, Jason’s decision was the only reason that the others weren’t surrounded.
But this meant that he was a sitting duck and with him not knowing where the zombies resided.
"Do you smell that?" Jason asked Clementine.
"Smell what?" Clementine asked, she didn’t know what he was talking about as she, herself, couldn’t perceive anything.
"The smell of the dead," Jason said and the moment he did, a zombie came into sight.
Clementine didn’t know if it was a coincidence or if Jason could somehow perceive zombies even before they came into sight.
"We might need to move," Clementine said and readied herself to move in the opposite direction but even more zombies were coming from that direction.
They were surrounded and the only way out was to fight them, Clementine knew it would be foolish to use their weapons here.
As if Jason wasn’t already a problem but she also knew there had to be range that the zombies could perceive.
They couldn’t perceive him state away and this was common sense, there had to be a logical explanation as to why they could and a way they could avoid.
"We should cover ourselves in their guts..." Clementine said but Jason raised a brow.
The last time that they did, he risked putting all of them in danger as he underestimated what the fragment in his possession could do.
"That won’t work," Jason said but Clementine shook her head.
"The last time we walked through the horde, they were aware that the fragment was within their vicinity but they couldn’t pinpoint it," Clementine said.
Jason thought back on it and it was true, the zombies knew about it but they couldn’t find it.
And there had to be a reason that they didn’t enter the top floor, could it be that they didn’t know the exact location of these fragments?
This was a wide guess as they had nothing to support this, the only support they had was that the zombies were drawn to it.
Jason took a deep breath and told Clementine to stand back, she needed her strength for what was to come.
He grabbed a dagger and went to work on the zombies, Jason hacked and sliced as he couldn’t waste ammunition.
Clementine didn’t know if he wanted to flex his masculinity but this was the wrong setting to do so. Heck, she was a much better killer than Jason, he might have the powers but he lacked the skills to harness that power to its fullest potential.
Clementine sighed as she joined in, Jason was handling the dagger with impressive proficiency but he wasn’t a killer and it showed in his handling.
He sometimes even missed the head and had to give it a second go, he was catching on as she didn’t remember him possessing this skill before.
"Jason..." Clementine called out, walking beside him with her own dagger in hand.
"You’re holding it wrongly," Clementine corrected him and Jason noticed her grip on the dagger was a lot more loose yet despite this, she was easily piercing their brains.
"It isn’t about the force with which you stab them, the harder the face, the more difficult it is for you to draw the dagger out," Clementine said.
Stabbing a zombie right in front of her and removing the dagger just as easily and stabbing another.
"Try it," Clementine urged him on and Jason adjusted his handle on the dagger and attempted to do what she had done but failed.
He missed the zombie’s head entirely and forced Clementine to clean up his mess but Jason noted that he had a lot more room to defend himself if he missed.
The loose grip didn’t cut off other counteractive measures he could as opposed to the firm grip.
"I guess you still need some work..." Clementine muttered and Jason rolled his eyes.
His method was working just fine even though he couldn’t deny that Clementine’s own provided a lot more possibilities.
The zombies were killed and as they killed them, the zombies’ blood spilled on them.
The more they killed, the more they were covered in blood and masked their smell.
They became confused, they didn’t know where they were and this was a good way to test the theory that Clementine had proposed.
Clementine stood still and motionless the moment they were done disposing of the zombies within their vicinity.
The next set of zombies was upon them and they both realized that there were a lot more zombies than they had anticipated.
Jason followed her lead and it was as she said, the zombie knew that the fragment was there but they had difficulty pinpointing its location and instead, began to walk around Jason in circles.
Jason couldn’t believe his luck, he didn’t know that it would be this easy because he could think of so many ways this could be helpful.
Jason glanced over at Clementine, smiling with his full teeth shown.
"We did it," He mouthed in silence and Clementine flashed a smile in his direction.
However, something soon happened that neither had seen before, the zombies began to leave the area but they didn’t leave in one direction.
They were scattering in all directions and each looked like they were running from something.
"What’s going on?" Clementine thought to herself, looking over at Jason but he looked terrified,
"This feeling...!" Jason muttered to himself, a cold bead of sweat dripping as he froze in place.
[[Danger Alert! Danger Alert! Danger Alert!]]
This must be what the zombies felt, undead creatures fleeing despite not being afflicted by fear.
"Jason?" Clementine muttered, Jason looked like he was struggling to even breathe,
"Clementine... RUN!" Jason said and the moment he did, something that they wish to never see came into sight.
