Chapter 294: Sam’s Ability!?
Chapter 294: Sam’s Ability!?
Sam had killed one and put the rest on guard but he didn’t mind this because he was a survivor that followed his guts despite every other indication that he was wrong.
The lady noticed how the others reacted and it was strange that they went straight for the kill rather than trying to overpower him.
But what was more frightening was the man in front of her, he wasn’t scared despite the odds being against him.
Sam scratched his head, looking at them like he was bored of this despite his life being on the line.
"Well, are you coming or do I have to come to you?" Sam asked with a sinister tone.
This prompted the rest of the evolved humans to look at themselves but what happened next was something that even Sam couldn’t have predicted.
They slit their throats, killing themselves in the process and forcing themselves to turn into zombies.
Everyone did this but the girl, shocked by this drastic action; was speechless.
"W-WHAT ARE YOU ALL DOING!?" She screamed but Sam simply chuckled at this sight.
This only confirmed what he suspected but he took note that the lady didn’t take such action.
"You better come over here or I will split open your throat as well," Sam warned her but she didn’t know how to respond to it.
She couldn’t trust Sam but she wanted to know what made them commit collective suicide.
The speed at which the transition happened took mere seconds, usually, it takes a few minutes for the infection to spread and turn one into a walking dead but this happened in seconds.
It was because of their compatibility with the fragment.
Sam realized that this was the birth of the evolved zombie but unlike him, the fragment had buried itself deeper into their psyche than him.
"At fucking last, some fun!" Sam exclaimed as they all rose to their feet but their common sense disappeared alongside their transformation.
The fragment had prevented their brain from dying so they could use all of their senses, including sight.
Sam charged right at them but they had no intention of attacking one by one.
They were now linked on a deeper level and could coordinate their attacks flawlessly.
Sam attempted to slice one’s throat open but it ducked down with another leaping over it in a bid to grab Sam’s neck but Sam kicked it right in the face, sending it crashing into the others.
"Hahaha! That is it! Keep coming!" Sam exclaimed but something grabbed his feet, the one that had ducked down moments ago took measures to limit his movement.
The fingernails of the others turned into sharpened claws, ready to rip him to shreds but Sam stood still before taking a breath.
"Did you think you were the only ones cursed?" Sam questioned and the moment these words left his mouth, his eyes began flicking.
Flickering between purple and green; the other zombies that were charging at him suddenly crashed head-first into the ground like they had their controller disconnected.
The lady clutched her head in pain, it felt like her brain was about to split apart but she wasn’t the only one going through this.
Sam felt blood running down his nose but his pain tolerance was far greater than any of theirs.
The zombies were affected because they were dead and had fragments in them. This was one of the things preserving their brains and controlling their mobility.
It is unknown what Sam did but it was clear they weren’t the only ones affected.
"You see? I’m a monster!" Sam exclaimed before dashing at the disabled zombies and cutting off their heads, he made sure not to kill them but only sever their heads from their bodies to render them useless.
"I’m surprised you didn’t kill yourself as well..." Sam muttered to her but the lady was in excruciating pain, she was trying her best to keep herself together otherwise she would break.
Sam noticed that she had wet herself and just took a deep breath, his glowing eyes returning to normal and the side effects of using whatever he just used hit him hard.
He stumbled backwards, barely remaining on his feet but he was able to retain his balance.
"Damn, that took a bigger toll than I thought..." Sam muttered to himself with a smile.
The blood kept rushing out of his nose but Sam knew that this was a lot worse than it looked.
"W-What was that!? What are you!?" The lady exclaimed upon regaining her senses, she looked around and wondered why these people senselessly threw their lives away.
They were meant to fight off the dead so why did they, themselves, become the dead?
"It looks like you aren’t one of them," Sam pointed out as he dropped to the ground in exhaustion.
"I don’t know what it is myself but it was something I figured out I could do, it is like frying my brain to stop the fragment’s influence within a limited range," Sam revealed, showing that he trusted this lady to a certain degree or at least that was the illusion he wished to portray.
She didn’t even know this was possible but that was the only explanation as to what had happened but it was clear that he was affected by it.
"It looks like whatever called us here wished to turn us into one of them," She finally spoke up, getting to her feet.
"You... With you... We just might win..." The lady said but Sam chuckled.
"We? Did you think I was going to let you live?" Sam’s aura changed the moment he said this.
The lady knew he wasn’t blushing and tried to reach for a weapon but a knife found her torso, forcing her onto the ground as Sam rose like the grim reaper.
"No way... I cannot risk you turning into one of these things... I will wipe you all out," Sam muttered, he had no reason to kill this woman.
If anything, it would make sense for him to ally with her but Sam wasn’t a man who trusted anyone but himself, he wasn’t going to start now.
Sam walked towards her, each step he took brought her closer to death.
She knew she had to say something to be useful to him because this man right here was everything that was needed to defeat these creatures.
And unlike the ones that had just killed themselves, Sam was resolute in his mission and she knew it.
