Chapter 48: A Captive
Chapter 48: A Captive
An hour before Clementine’s arrival, Sam and John walked the streets because they had the means to protect themselves from external threats.
Sam knew that John had seen him fight so if he was going to do something sneaky, it would be when his guard was done.
This was why Sam seemingly left himself open throughout this journey in hopes that it would force John to take this opening but there was nothing.
John didn’t take the bait but this didn’t mean that Sam trusted him, Sam knew that he took a gamble by disclosing their location to John.
Because nothing was stopping John from pulling the trigger and ending his life seeing as he knew their base.
He knew the kind of people they were, this was what they did as he had heard the gist of how Bella came to join Jason’s crew.
Sam was surprised that they took her under their wings after she was the reason they almost lost their possessions which could drastically reduce their chances of survival.
I guess that was humanity, humanity wasn’t dead in this hopeless world and it brought a sense of relief to Sam.
"We have been walking for quite some time, are you sure we are heading in the right direction?" John asked Sam. He was tired of walking, he wanted to rest his ass as his legs were getting sore.
In his defence, he had been walking for quite some time so his body was feeling the recoil.
Not that it mattered, if John was at full strength, Sam would still fold him.
"We’re almost there, just a little longer..." Sam muttered.
"I certainly hope so, my body can’t walk any more. Is this how it fucking feels like to be old?" John joked but Sam didn’t find this funny.
He had no intention of allowing small talk to make him forget the threat that this man posed.
They walked and walked, each step made it seem like they were walking towards the sun because they weren’t any closer to the building but then it came into sight.
A motel, John heaved a sigh of relief at this sight because this meant that he could finally rest.
"Fuck yeah! Fucking hell yeah man! I have to admit, I thought you were full of fucking shit!" John exclaimed, he was excited, a bit too excited even.
"Why would I lie about that? We are friends, aren’t we?" Sam tossed the question up in the air and John gobbled it right up.
"Of course! Of course! We are fucking friends!" John said with a heartfelt laughter but there was nothing genuine about it but Sam knew all he had to do was play along.
John couldn’t catch on to his act because he wasn’t ready for a confrontation, not now at least as it was too soon.
The closer they got, the more distinctive the motel looked, it wasn’t the same one that Jason and co were lounging at.
Sam had taken this man to a completely different motel, this was the smartest thing to do because he didn’t know what would happen if he brought him back to base.
Sam also needed more information from him so killing him was temporarily off the table unless he absolutely had to.
The motel only had a single floor and Sam was cautious because he didn’t know if zombies were there or not.
He had told John a lie and managed to lure him here and now, it was time for the second part of his plan. He picked a random room, he knew it was empty because he had snuck a peek through the window.
Sam entered the room as he knew that he had to sell this otherwise John might catch on but it didn’t matter right now.
He had gotten him here and now it was time to drop the act, he did so the moment they entered the room.
Sam had to enter first, he was the supposed owner so it was only natural that he entered first but upon doing so, he heard a clicking sound at the back of his head.
"Bingo! You must think I’m a real fucking idiot, doncha?" John asked and Sam realized that a gun was pointed at the back of his head but he didn’t look worried.
"I wouldn’t say idiot, that is too nice a word," Sam said, he had a gun right at his head yet he was so calm and the reason why would soon be revealed.
In the blink of an eye, Sam’s body dropped to the ground and this movement forced a reflexive action from John as he pulled on the trigger despite Sam no longer being in the line of fire.
John looked panicked as he tried to realign his gun towards Sam but all he felt was his feet leaving the ground as he let off another bullet that was nowhere near Sam.
Sam had swept him off his feet and abruptly disarmed him, this was in no way a challenge from what he has experienced in his life thus far.
John looked amazed because he was certain that he had the upper hand but Sam was a lot smarter and had more experience than him.
The moment he disarmed John, John fought back by kicking Sam off him.
Sam had a gun and could easily kill John but he wanted him alive, not dead.
John knew he had to run or he would truly be fucked but something told him that Sam was faster than he was and with a gun in his hand, there was no escaping him.
"What the fuck do you want from you! You stupid motherfucker!" John cussed, clearly losing his cool but Sam remained calm.
He had no doubt in his mind that he could handle John and luckily for Sam, he didn’t need to use his gun as John surrendered the moment he noticed that there was no way out of this situation.
"Clementine... Sorry, but I will be a little longer," Sam thought to himself as he proceeded to bind John.

"We’re getting close, I can feel it," Alex blurted out, the man that they had sent back to get reinforcement spoke to a group of five men of varying sizes and ages.
The only thing they all had in common was the weapon that they had, and these were guns.
Alex was on the move. Something that even Sam couldn’t have anticipated was happening and that was John unknowingly leaving a trail that would lead right to them.
Sam thought he had John checkmated but this was far from the reality but who would time favor?
